 VSB and Non-Commercial Groups Coaching

VSBs (very small businesses) and non-commercial groups such as community groups, pressure groups, churches, schools etc. have in the past used the hand-me-down technologies of large enterprises. Most of this technology dates from a time before the availability of fast and cheap broadband connections.

Broadband, cheap PCs, open-source software and the evolution of internet & mobile communication technologies over the last 10 years have changed the economics and nature of IT services in a dramatic way.

Terms such as Blog, Podcast, Wiki, VoIP, SKYPE, Flicr, YouTUBE, OPML, RSS, Goggle Docs & Spreadsheets, Wiki, JotSpot , SaaS sound like TOTP bands from 1980s but are in fact the (odd) names given to some of the technologies and companies that are changing how people use the web to collaborate and communicate. Often referred to collectively as Web 2.0 or the Read/Write Web, they are designed to be used by the 'lay person'.

While larger businesses are slowly starting to realise the enormous potential of a networked world, they are hampered by legacy systems and attitudes. Not so VSBs, who have traditionally under-invested in IT, they can more easily take advantage of these new cost-effective collaborative tools to manage their operations and to communicate both internally and externally.

With the appearance of many pay-as-you-go (and even free) services it is now possible to match your IT spend to your current requirements and means. With this shift towards just-in-time computing the obvious way to learn about this technology should also be just-in-time. In other words, training and coaching when you need it, tailored to the job at hand.
